To me, stationery stores are heaven on earth! I can’t get enough of pens, brushes, paper, ink and more. My home office looks like a mini version of Muji, Tokyu Hands and CreativeMarket. Once I find the best pen, I start to stock up, because “You never know…”
In digital times one would think that the era of notebooks, paper and pens is over. But the opposite is the case: Lettering, brush lettering, bullet journals and hand written notes are more in trend than ever before. Perfect for me! No panic that one day my most favorite brush pen from TOMBOW won’t be available anymore. The offer in stationery and creative markets is bigger than ever before. Companies such as STABILO or EDDING are jumping on the lettering hype and offer special pens in all possible colors.
Way back in 2000 when I went to Fashion School, brands such as TOMBOW or COPIC where the “must-haves” for designers. I used the brush pens for coloring, designing, creative mood boards. No one talked about brush lettering.
Now 17 years later, here I am: my TOMBOW brush pens in my hands and trying lettering for the first time. YES – 17 years – and the brush pens are still working! That’s quality.
Discovering the art of lettering sparked a new hobby in me. Practicing is like yoga for my brain and helps me to switch off after a busy day or week.
My first lettering steps are…oh well…a first step. Far away from inspirations like Frau Hoelle, Frollein Schmid or May & Berry. But I guess they also started small.
Equipment is available: pens, brush pens, ink and pencils in all colors and all variations. Now it’s up to me to PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and who knows, maybe I’ll get there one day…
